Little Big City – Sightseeing in Bratislava

Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and for many visitors it is a controversial city. Not too big, not too small. Many come for one or two nights, while many are happy to stay for a week or more.

We are proud to be citizens of Bratislava, or “Pressburgers” as inhabitants of the city were once called when it was an important part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Because of this, Bratislava inherited many traditions, cuisine, architecture, even the mentality of those times, but still retained its inimitability and specific character.

You can admire the history everywhere you move. Many visitors, whether they are tourists or businesspeople, appreciate the architecture and the compact nature of the historical city centre, which allows for concentrated and interesting city tours.

Among the must-see sights, we recommend the following top 10 sites:

  1. Bratislava Castle and its surrounding streets and views of the city
  2. The St. Martin’s gothic Cathedral, coronation place of Maria Therese
  3. Main Square with cafés and restaurants, tiny narrow streets, little shops offering local and authentic items
  4. New Bridge across the Danube River with the famous UFO-like café at the top, built using the unique socialist style with no supporting pillars in the water
  5. Old State Opera house - very majestic with a grand atmosphere
  6. Grassalkovich Palace with gardens, seat of the current President
  7. Janko Kral Park –one of the oldest public parks in Europe, with beautiful plants and many relaxing areas
  8. Danube River cruises, views, a boardwalk and even a sandy river beach can be found here
  9. Old and New Town Hall with beautiful interior including a valuable tapestry
  10. Hotel Devin, one of the oldest hotels, a protected heritage building, built in the functionalistic style

Bratislava is undoubtedly worth spending a few days in. Commercialization has penetrated the city slowly and we are happy if we can preserve its natural quirks and admire its unique atmosphere spread over a relatively small area. Welcome to Hotel Devin - a gateway to Bratislava !
